Our coop should be supporting this project, which started right here in Vermont.
As the second largest employer in Washington County, Hunger Mountain Coop should be thinking in terms of the impact of our internal practices on our local economy. If we use best practices at the Coop, employees will take those best practices with them to their next jobs in our community.
The former General Manager had begun to consider a housing project for low-income workers to address the housing crisis. Our coop's budget is large enough to support regional-scale projects that would support local agriculture in a way that builds a locally-controlled economy.
